DEUTZ welcomes 28 new apprentices

  • 20 apprentices start their career at DEUTZ’s Cologne-Porz site
  • Eight new apprentices at DEUTZ’s sites in Ulm and Herschbach
  • Vocational training at DEUTZ has won numerous awards from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce

On 1 September 2017, two women and 18 men started their vocational training at DEUTZ AG’s Cologne-Porz site. The engine manufacturer offers training in seven different professions.

Of this year’s apprentices in Cologne, two are specialising in electronics, two in warehouse operations, ten in skilled metal working (assembly technology), three in skilled metal working (machining) and three in mechatronics. This next generation of skilled workers will support the production operations for DEUTZ’s compact engines, which are based in Cologne.

Dr Margarete Haase, member of the Board of Management at DEUTZ AG, welcomed the new apprentices personally during their induction: “The start of your professional training marks the beginning of a new chapter in your life and I am delighted that you have chosen to start your career at DEUTZ.”

The training starts with the induction, which, as usual, is organised by second-year apprentices at DEUTZ. They provide the new recruits with all the key information about their employer. The induction is primarily aimed at giving the apprentices an opportunity to get to know one another and familiarise themselves with the company – and the experienced apprentices are always on hand to provide help and support to the newcomers.

Four apprentices in industrial mechanics and two in mechatronics are starting their training at the same time at the Ulm site – it is here that DEUTZ produces large-capacity and air-cooled engines as well as reconditioning exchange engines. Two apprentices already started their training as milling machine operators on 1 August at the components plant in Herschbach.

Frank Opitz, head of the training centre in Cologne: “We are delighted to have been able to fill all our apprenticeship places with exceptional and motivated young people again this year. Our inhouse apprenticeships benefit us as a company as much as they do the trainees – we offer vocational training of a very high standard, thereby also ensuring that we can meet the demand for skilled workers at our production plants.”

For six consecutive years, the DEUTZ training centre in Cologne has received awards from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Cologne for its outstanding contribution to initial vocational training. Apprentices from DEUTZ also regularly achieve top results. Two DEUTZ apprentices were recently awarded the coveted accolade ‘Best in North Rhine-Westphalia 2016’ from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in North Rhine-Westphalia. DEUTZ also runs initial vocational training on behalf of numerous partners.
