Between 12 and 18 November 2017, DEUTZ will be exhibiting its latest developments at the world’s largest agricultural machinery fair, Agritechnica, in Hannover. This year, the focus will include the Stage-V-certified engine range, new in-line engines from 9 to 18 litres capacity and the E-DEUTZ strategy for electric engine solutions. DEUTZ is also investing in the digitalisation of its service products through the DEUTZ Connect app, a tool for remote engine diagnostics.

DEUTZ will be presenting several other highlights during the Systems & Components trade forum in hall 16, stand D19. Under the banner ‘OUR PROMISE – YOUR FLEXIBILITY’, DEUTZ is keeping the promise it made about the EU Stage V exhaust emissions standard, which comes into force in 2019. DEUTZ is the world’s first engine manufacturer to be given an EU Stage V certificate. The DEUTZ ‘Stage V ready’ engine seal, established back in 2015, has now become the ‘Stage V certified’ seal. The TTCD 6.1 is the first DEUTZ engine to be certified. This six-cylinder engine with twin turbo chargers is particularly suited to use in tractors. The TCD 3.6, 4.1, 6.1 and TTCD 7.8 models have also been certified in time for Agritechnica. Changing from the current EU Stage IV to Stage V requires no additional installation space, thus avoiding expensive modifications to customers’ equipment. By obtaining the first EU Stage V certificate, DEUTZ is also delivering on its environmental promise and positioning itself as an engine manufacturer with an eco-friendly focus.

DEUTZ launches electrification

A further highlight is the E-DEUTZ strategy. In September, DEUTZ announced the acquisition of Torqeedo GmbH, the global market leader and system solution specialist for integrated electric and hybrid drives for boats. This acquisition is the catalyst for the electrification of the DEUTZ product range. DEUTZ will be applying its comprehensive expertise and technology portfolio in all areas of electrification on future developments in the core off-highway business.

DEUTZ will be showcasing an engine from Torqeedo’s Travel range and a battery pack to show the future technology transfer. The goal is to reduce the size of combustion engines through electrification and so offer reduced operating costs as an incentive for new and existing customers to buy. DEUTZ is aiming to be the market leader for innovative drive systems in the off-highway sector and establishes its competitive position early on.

Four new in-line engines from 9 to 18 litres

Diesel engines – alone or as a part of diesel-electric hybrids – are still very much in use, especially in heavy off-highway applications. That is why DEUTZ will be extending its Stage V portfolio in the higher output range from 2019, with four new in-line engines from 9 to 18 litres capacity. The TCD 9.0 four-cylinder engine delivers 300 kW of power and generates 1,700 Nm of torque. The TCD 12.0 and 13.5 are six-cylinder engines producing, respectively, 400 kW of power and 2,500 Nm of torque, and 450 kW of power and 2,800 Nm of torque. The new TCD 9.0, 12.0 and 13.5 models are part of a platform concept, with a proportion of common components of around 65 percent that reduces the complexity of servicing and optimises warehousing. The engines also feature a standard customer interface and an identical front and back that simplifies integration and servicing of the engines considerably. At the top of the range, DEUTZ will be offering the TCD 18.0 six-cylinder engine with 620 kW and 3,600 Nm. This is targeted particularly at heavy construction equipment and agricultural machinery with high power and torque requirements.

Two more engines will extend the lower end of the power range. The agricultural machinery version of the DEUTZ TCD 2.2 three-cylinder will also be exhibited at Agritechnica for the first time, featuring an integral oil sump that makes it suitable for installing in tractors. Thanks to its compact configuration, it is the ideal engine for small tractors. Moreover, its big brother – the four-cylinder TCD 2.9 with a power output of up to 80 kW – will be making its first appearance as a high power variant for agricultural machinery.

Remote engine diagnostics with the DEUTZ Connect app

Reflecting the official slogan of Agritechnica’s Systems & Components forum, ‘Stay Connected’, DEUTZ will also be presenting three digital products. The free DEUTZ Connect service app marks the start of a completely new digital service. The first function it will offer is remote engine diagnostics via smartphone or tablet, with other functions to follow. DEUTZ will be presenting this new app to the public for the first time at Agritechnica.

DEUTZ’s new webshop (www.deutz-serviceportal.com) will see the DEUTZ aftersales network moving onto the internet. Customers anywhere in the world will be able to get in touch with their local service partner online to register their engines and to buy spare parts online 24/7. This platform-based system combines the benefits of the World Wide Web – unlimited availability round the clock – with the strengths offered by an expert local aftersales service. The provision of aftersales support and parts delivery will remain in the hands of the local DEUTZ partner close to the customer. This allows delivery times to be minimised and the most efficient support to be provided.

DEUTZ will also present its Dynamic Best Point Control software at Agritechnica. Jointly developed with the Danish company Danfoss, the software delivers improved availability of the hydraulic pump system in diesel engines and promises fuel savings of more than 20 percent.
