DEUTZ opens its factory gates for the sixth Nacht der Technik event

  • Sixth Nacht der Technik event takes place on 23 June from 6pm until midnight
  • 64 companies in Cologne and the surrounding region are participating in the open evening for technology and engineering
  • DEUTZ will be showcasing its production facilities and Technikum engine museum

On 23 June, Cologne-based engine manufacturer DEUTZ will be taking part in the sixth Nacht der Technik engineering and technology evening. The organizers at the Association of German Engineers (VDI) and Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE) have put together a programme for Cologne and the surrounding region featuring 64 venues, including technology companies, universities, testing institutes, hospitals and power companies. This event is a must for all locals with a passion for technology or engineering.

A shuttle bus service will be running between the venues. Visitors to DEUTZ can take a guided tour of its engine museum – the Technikum – and the production facilities at the Cologne-Porz site.

It is now over 150 years since Nicolaus August Otto and Eugen Langen founded N.A. Otto und Cie. in Cologne, the world's first engine factory which went on to become the present-day DEUTZ AG. Development of the four-stroke principle by Otto and Langen launched the motorisation of the world. The exhibits on show in the 600m² Technikum include the engines produced by DEUTZ's founders. Most popular with visitors are usually the two gas-powered original models, which date back to 1867 and 1876 yet remain in full working order.

From the viewing gallery in the assembly hall, visitors can then compare what they have seen in the Technikum with the cutting-edge diesel and gas engine technology used today. They will also gain an insight into the various stages of assembly in the engine production process, from delivery of the components to the finished engine.
