DEUTZ welcomes mayors of Cologne and Beijing

  • Henriette Reker and Beijing’s mayor Jining Chen visit DEUTZ
  • Guests are introduced to the E-DEUTZ strategy
  • Electrification the focus of the ELECTRIP week

On Sunday, Henriette Reker, the mayor of Cologne, and Jining Chen, the mayor of Beijing, joined a high-ranking delegation from the People’s Republic of China on a visit to the DEUTZ head office in Cologne, where they learned about the progress the Company is making in electrification.

Cologne and Beijing have enjoyed a partnership that goes back 30 years and which focuses in particular on close economic ties between the two cities. Strengthening these ties was one of the reasons behind this year’s visit from the Chinese delegation headed by mayor Jining Chen.

The delegation chose to visit DEUTZ AG to find out more about the Company’s electrification strategy. The E-DEUTZ strategy combines the Company’s low-emission combustion engines with electric and hybrid drives to provide innovative systems that represent an important step towards sustainable and efficient transportation.

Electrified construction equipment is an effective measure for improving the air quality in major cities such as Cologne and Beijing. For off-highway applications, the China 4 emissions standard will come into force in China from 2020. DEUTZ already has the technology needed for this standard in the off-highway market, something that represents a huge challenge for many local market players – particularly in light of the short implementation period.

Cologne’s mayor, Henriette Reker, praised the Company as an example of the innovative strength and strong technological basis of regional companies. “DEUTZ AG has been a byword for pioneering spirit, passion and innovation since its foundation. But it also represents a bridge to China, an important market for the future. In the world’s most populous country, DEUTZ stands for high-performance, innovative and environmentally friendly engines,” says mayor Reker.

Mayor Jining Chen was also impressed by the Company’s progress in electrification: “I would like to thank DEUTZ for the warm welcome I have received. DEUTZ is a company with a long and proud history as well as an outstanding track record in technological innovation. That is something that has really impressed us. I would be delighted if DEUTZ were to strengthen its collaboration with startups in the technology sector in Beijing.”

Michael Wellenzohn, member of the DEUTZ AG Board of Management responsible for Sales, Service & Marketing was delighted to welcome such prestigious visitors: “It was a very special honour for us that the mayors of two such important cities visited our company in order to see for themselves the latest technology in drive systems For me, the discussion around the megatrends of emissions reduction and energy efficiency was particularly interesting. Their knowledge about the technical possibilities was impressive. We look forward to being able to discuss electric drives and alternative fuels in more detail when we take up the invitations extended by Ms Reker and Mr Chen.”

DEUTZ AG is inviting customers, investors, the media and policymakers to an exclusive ELECTRIP week in Cologne from 15 to 21 September 2018. Guests can experience the evolution of fully electric and hybrid drive systems on land and on water at the new DEUTZ Innovation Centre and the Rheinauhafen harbour in Cologne.
